The Curry College Department of Athletics announced in November 2022 that John Carroll had been named the next head coach of the men’s lacrosse program.
“I am extremely excited to announce John Carroll as our next men’s lacrosse coach,” said Curry Director of Athletics Vinnie Eruzione when Carroll was hired. “John's enthusiasm and commitment to the game of lacrosse is outstanding. He is a student of the game who is a relentless recruiter. His past collegiate experiences made him a great choice to lead our program.”
Carroll came to Curry after spending the previous three and a half years as head coach at Nichols College. The 2022 edition of the Bison men’s lacrosse program won eight games, including a 10-9 triumph at Salve Regina in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Quarterfinals – the first playoff win in program history. Four student-athletes were named to the all-conference team while 12 more grabbed academic all-conference honors. Nichols saw three student-athletes set a total of five single-season records in 2022 (goals, assists, faceoff wins, groundballs, and faceoff winning pct.).
Prior to Nichols, Carroll spent four years coaching at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. He began as an assistant coach in the fall of 2015, before he was promoted to defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator in 2017. In 2019, the Bantams advanced to the NESCAC Quarterfinals for the first time since 2012, in large part due to their strong defensive play. The Bantams caused 124 turnovers – their highest mark during Carroll’s tenure.
Other previous coaching roles for Carroll include assistant positions at Sacred Heart University and the College of the Holy Cross. A 2012 graduate of the University of Albany, Carroll was a four-year member of the men’s lacrosse program who graduated No. 6 on the program’s all-time saves list with 378. In 2010, he was named to the America East All-Tournament Team and finished the campaign No. 8 in Division I in saves with 185.
